We are authorised and regulated by the UK Regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority ("FCA"). We are bound by their rules in the conduct of our investment business.
As required by the regulator, your investments are held with our custodian Crest/Euroclear and in a separate nominee company, and are therefore safe from the business risk of InvestEngine.
On top of this, we make sure that we invest your money in liquid and well-established exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with long track records.
The Financial Conduct Authority is the regulatory body for the financial sector in the UK.
One of its main roles is to regulate and supervise financial firms that provide services to consumers – offering investors an appropriate degree of protection – as well as maintaining the integrity of financial markets.
No. InvestEngine is a discretionary investment manager and we are not regulated to give financial advice and nothing on our website should be interpreted as such. If you’re unsure, you should always seek the advice of an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
We aim to make intelligent investing simple. We will help you set up a portfolio with the minimum of fuss; selecting and managing the investments for you – all the while constantly monitoring your portfolio.
Of course, the ultimate investment decisions always rest with you. That is why we value transparency; if you want to change something, you can. And we are always happy to help you with questions about our service.
But our aim is to take the hard work out of investing for you - meaning you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the rewards of your investment.
Like many investment managers, we hold all of your investments in a ‘custodian bank’. While you remain the beneficial owner of your investments, having segregated accounts adds an additional layer of security. It means we have no legal right to your money and cannot use it to cover any InvestEngine obligations. The custodian we use is Crest, a separate nominee company which is owned by Euroclear — the world's largest securities settlement system with €27.5 trillion in assets under custody.
And in the unlikely event that either InvestEngine or Crest goes bankrupt your investments will still be protected. We are also authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Your investment of up to £85,000 may be eligible for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). Follow this link to get more information.
InvestEngine makes investment decisions based upon the model portfolio that is carefully matched to your investor profiles, with due diligence and oversight constantly performed by our investment team.
Under the terms of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive, a regulatory obligation also known by its acronym ‘MiFID’, we promise to execute all of your investments at the best possible price.
So, what does ‘best execution’ mean?
As we constantly monitor your portfolio and make the investment decisions on your behalf, when it comes to buying or selling an investment, it is our duty to seek the best possible terms that are reasonably available.
The answer is most probably, yes!
Some professions (for example financial services, legal and accountancy firms) have restrictions on the types of securities that individuals can invest in. These restrictions forbid holding of certain securities, stipulate a minimum holding period, restrict trading periods during certain times, etc.
InvestEngine offers a discretionary investment service and so usually your account with us would not be subject to the personal dealing rules since the investment decisions about which individual securities are held on your behalf is made by InvestEngine and not you. Personal dealing rules will differ greatly so please check with your employer.
Of course, we don’t know the exact terms to which you may be bound by. We are more than happy to provide your company or organisation with a letter detailing the exact nature of InvestEngine’s services. To request the letter, please email email@example.com.
If you have a complaint, you can send it to us in writing at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling us on free from the UK on 0800 808 5771 or on +44 (0)20 8051 9501 outside of the UK.
We will deal with your complaint as fairly and quickly as possible and will follow the complaint handling guidelines as stipulated by the FCA. We will aim to give you a final response to your complaint within the deadline required by regulation (currently set at 8 weeks). If you are unhappy with this final response, you can refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
The FOS is an independent organisation which aims to resolve disputes between customers and firms where they have been unable to resolve the issue themselves. The FOS will therefore not look at a complaint until it has been taken up with us and we have had reasonable time to look at the complaint and respond to it.
The value of your portfolio with InvestEngine can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you invest. Learn more about the risks
